چکیده

2014 We analyse the scattered light and specific heat data on xenon using the recent nonlinear renormalization group calculations obtained in the ~4 theory in three dimensions. The minimal set of free parameters that the theory imposes is sufficient to describe these data even for the case where, in the usual analysis, many correction terms to scaling are needed. We show that it will be very difficult to determine the influence of transients neglected in the ~4 model. Furthermore, we obtain the reduction to dimensionless experimental quantities in agreement with two scale factor universality. We show that the asymptotic amplitudes of the singular quantities are also related to the amplitudes of the first confluent corrections according to the critical path considered. J. Bulk viscosity, thermoacoustic boundary layers, and adsorption near the critical point of xenon.

We present an improved model for the dissipation and dispersion in an acoustic resonator filled with xenon near its critical temperature Tc. We test the model with acoustic measurements in stirred xenon that have a temperature resolution of (T - Tc)/Tc approximately 7 x 10(-6). The model includes the frequency-dependent bulk viscosity calculated numerically from renormalization-group theory and...

Shear thinning near the critical point of xenon.

We measured shear thinning, a viscosity decrease ordinarily associated with complex liquids, near the critical point of xenon. The data span a wide range of reduced shear rate: 10(-3)<gamma tau<700 , where gamma tau is the shear rate scaled by the relaxation time tau of critical fluctuations. The measurements had a temperature resolution of 0.01 mK and were conducted in microgravity aboard the ...

High-precision thermodynamic and critical properties from tensor renormalization-group flows.

The recently developed tensor renormalization-group (TRG) method provides a highly precise technique for deriving thermodynamic and critical properties of lattice Hamiltonians. The TRG is a local coarse-graining transformation, with the elements of the tensor at each lattice site playing the part of the interactions that undergo the renormalization-group flows. These tensor flows are directly r...

Crossover behavior in 3He and Xe near their liquid-vapor critical point

We present a detailed discussion of the crossover from mean-field to Ising critical behavior upon approach of the critical point, both for 3He and Xe. By combining different sets of experimental data, we are able to cover an unusually large temperature range on either side of the critical temperature T(c). Below T(c), we thus can make an accurate comparison with a recent calculation for the cro...

Critical dynamics of magnets

We review our current understanding of the critical dynamics of magnets above and below the transition temperature with focus on the effects due to the dipole-dipole interaction present in all real magnets. Significant progress in our understanding of real ferromagnets in the vicinity of the critical point has been made in the last decade through improved experimental techniques and theoretical...
